Bread Crumb Tray

Upon my ventures through the vast and wondrous expanse of the Internet, mine eyes beheld a project most intriguing—an endeavor to craft a tray, destined to catch the wayward crumbs when one carves through hard crusted loaves.

For this noble task, I envisioned the juxtaposition of two woods: the rich, dark tones of walnut and the light, fair hues of maple. The maple, with its gentle grace, would form the base of the tray, while the walnut, robust and enduring, would serve as the cutting surface.

With these fine timbers in hand, I commenced my toil. The walnut and maple boards, selected for their stark contrast, were meticulously prepared to the required dimensions. First, the walnut was affixed to the CNC spoil board, and thus did I begin to mill the top. Thereafter, the maple took its place upon the spoil board, though the fickle endmill tool skirted the edges, necessitating the removal of the two stop blocks.

The walnut, proud and steadfast, was the first to be carved. Yet when it came time for the maple, the fates conspired against me. The double-sided tape failed in its duty, and the maple was unceremoniously cast from the spoil board, leaving a grievous gouge upon the tray’s edge. Undaunted, I mended the wound as best I could and pressed on with my labor.

At last, the tray stood complete, its purpose fulfilled despite its battle scars. The walnut insert, easily removable, completed the piece—a testament to perseverance and craftsmanship in the face of adversity. Thus, the bread crumb tray, a harmonious blend of walnut and maple, was brought into being.
