The Spoon Swing

In those halcyon days of yore, there lived a soul who cherished the simple, aromatic pleasure of coffee. For every morn, the ritual of stirring creamer and sweetener into the rich brew called for a noble spoon. Loathe was our noble soul to let this instrument of artistry rest upon napkin or counter. Hence, a creation was wrought—an enchanted holder to suspend the spoon above the realms of mess and disarray.

This grand design was comprised of three elements: a humble drip cup, a steadfast base for the countertop, and a vertical post imbued with magnetic charm.

Drip Tray

In the craftsman’s heart and mind, designs were birthed with the aid of Fusion 360. A wax mold was then fashioned upon the anvil of the Tormach PCNC 440 mill. Into this negative form, silicone was poured, capturing the essence of the mold’s inner shape. Epoxy, clear as elven glass, was mixed with pigments that danced and settled in a ballet of color without the need for a stirring hand.

Thus, emerged the wax mold and its silicone counterpart, from which the final cast of the drip cup was born.

The First Prototype

The initial endeavor saw its creation from humble plywood, followed by a second attempt sculpted from the red oak tree, standing as a testament to the craftsman’s growing mastery.

Final Prototype

In the end, the final prototype, a marvel of walnut, took shape. The post, once a simple I-beam, was transformed into a carved walnut spoon. Atop this spoon, a magnet rested, holding the stir spoon aloft with graceful ease. It is worth noting that this innovation and the thoughtful inscription were the clever musings of the artisan’s beloved spouse.

Thus, the tale of the magnetic holder concludes, a harmonious blend of practicality and enchantment, born from the hands and hearts of the wise and the caring.
